The pigment particle remains under the skin but may fade over time. Some pigments are translucent and need to be layered to achieve the desired color.
Full lips: Normally takes 1 to 3 sessions (could be more depending on certain factors)
1st session - may lose 60-70%
2nd session - retains much more color, losing about 40-50%.
3rd session - if necessary, will retain even more, losing about 20-30%.
Lips will vary in color daily, hot, or cold, etc. You can only make a reasonable estimation as to the color it will pull once tattooed into the dermis. There is NO GUARANTEE that the color will stay as you see it.
CHARGES FOR ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS: There will be a $150+ fee for each additional or touch-up application. Touch ups generally do not take as long as the initial appointment due to the fact there is a lot of color implanted in the lip skin already.
PIGMENT RETENTION: It is extremely difficult to deposit permanent pigment in the tissue of the lips since the lips do not have pores as the rest of the skin on your face does. On the average, a permanent lip coloring procedure must be repeated an additional 2 times after the initial application, at intervals of no less than 3+ weeks. The tissues of the lips are not ready to accept new pigment at that time.
It is rare to get perfect results with only one application and it is more likely that you will need at least one or two additional applications.
Since each person has a different chemical and genetic makeup, it is impossible for us to tell you in advance exactly how much pigment retention you can expect with each application or how many applications you will need. We promise to give 100% pigment saturation with each application but the amount you retain is unpredictable.
Please remember the amount of pigment you retain or lose after each application is not a reflection of the quality of our work, but instead, on your chemical and genetic makeup, which we have no control over.
Cold sores
If you have a history of cold sores you'll need to start taking a prescription anti-viral (Valacyclovir, Denavir (penciclovir), acyclovir (Zovirax) or Valtrex), at least ONE week BEFORE your proposed procedure. Cold sore outbreaks are often triggered by stress or trauma to the lips or skin. Therefore, if you are a carrier, a PMU procedure will likely cause an outbreak if you do not take anti-viral medication prior to the treatment. A cold sore outbreak will affect your healing process and the results of the procedure and can even lead to scarring. To ensure the best possible results for clients, we require clients not skip this step. As such, if you have a history of cold sores and do not follow these instructions, Your appointment WILL be canceled and a cancellation fee assessed when applicable.
